The School of Allied Health Professions will accept applications for the faculty and administrative position of Department Head of Counseling. The Department Head is responsible for the Administrative role of the Department, monitoring daily operations of the department, recruits and hires faculty and staff, supervises budget expenditures, serves as representative of the Clinical Rehabilitation and Counseling Department both internally and externally. This position also is responsible for program planning and implementation, curriculum development, program evaluation/outcomes as well as program accreditation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Administrative services responsible for department policies, procedures, and records; Develop and maintain department policies and procedures such as employment practices, purchasing supplies and equipment. Oversee faculty development, clinical practice, student admissions, and student advisement. Oversee maintenance of department records.
- Department operations coordinate and oversee all day-to-day operations of department. Maintain communication with SAHP Administration. Conduct regular faculty meetings to discuss program-related issues. Allocate work assignments and responsibilities. Provide leadership during the admissions process. Provide and clarify admissions information to prospective applicants.
- Faculty and Staff: Recruit and hire faculty and staff. Mentor and supervise faculty and staff. Evaluate faculty and staff annually. Facilitate the professional development of faculty and staff. Approve all faculty and staff annual and sick leave.
- Budgeting: Supervise expenditure of State, federal and self-generated funds. Provide prior approval for all expenditures in the department (salaries, equipment, supplies, travel, continuing education, etc.).
- Department Representation: Serve as representative of the Counseling Department to the School of Allied Health, LSUHSC, community, and state. Serve as a member of the SAHP Administrative Council and Executive Committee.
- Program planning and implementation: Direct strategic planning in areas of teaching, research and scholarship, and service. Ensure congruence of CRC program’s strategic plan with the strategic planning of LSUHSC and the SAHP. Oversee implementation of program goals and objectives as stated in the curriculum design and detailed in the department’s strategic plan. Monitor strategic plan, make updates and modifications as needed. Review faculty plans and facilitate congruence of faculty development with the department’s strategic plan.
- Curriculum development: Provide leadership in CACREP curriculum development, teaching and learning. Facilitate collaboration among all CRC faculty (full-time, part-time, and adjunct).
- Program evaluation/outcomes: Evaluate the program on a regular basis using input from stakeholders (faculty, students, site supervisors, alumni, and employers).
- CACREP Accreditation: Remain abreast of current and pending accreditation requirements. Comply with accreditation requirements, including development and report of plans of correction and progress reports. Provide departmental leadership during the self-study and accrediting site visit process.
- Teaching: Responsible for teaching and advisement of first and second year CRC students.
- Scholarly Activity: Actively involved in promoting and conducting scholarly activities/research (writing, presentations, and workshops).
- Clinical Services: providing and supervising clinical services.
REQUIRED EDUCATION: Doctorate. Earned doctorate in Counselor Education from an accredited CACREP program. Discipline: Counseling. Certifications: Licensed or licensed eligible as a LPC-S in the state of Louisiana. Minimum of 5 years combined Academic and Administrative experience.
