Commercial Building Maintenance Assistant

The Frederick News-Post seeks full-time Maintenance Assistant to help maintain systems in our large commercial office and production facility in Frederick, MD. The Building Maintenance Assistant performs maintenance and minor repairs throughout the facility and on production equipment to reduce delays, costs, and breakdowns. The position requires the capacity for self-directed, independent work. The Building Maintenance Assistant must be responsive to the needs of production managers, coworkers and building tenants. We are looking for someone with knowledge of light carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, and a willingness to learn new skills on the job.

Building Maintenance Assistant responsibilities include: • Diagnose, repair, and maintain building system equipment. • Routine preventative maintenance tasks such as changing filters, fixing clogged sinks or toilets. • Working with specialized vendors for complex projects. • Painting and drywall repairs. • Routine plumbing repairs. • Maintaining light fixtures. • Maintain accurate records of parts, actions completed and items in need of repair. • Adhere to all lock out, tag out, confined space and working at heights requirements. • Keep thorough and accurate safety records and participate in regular safety meetings.

Skills and job expectations: • Knowledge, skill and ability to perform a variety of general maintenance tasks. • Basic computer proficiency. • High school degree or GED plus two years maintenance experience. • Must own a work vehicle and have a valid driver's license. • Must be available to work occasional weekend shifts and to respond to off-hours emergencies. • Physically capable of performing the job duties, including standing for long periods, lifting and carrying heavy objects, performing work on roof-top equipment, and other requirements that will be described upon interview.
