Youth Coordinator: Frederick County

Through Spectrum Support's work, we help people to Live Their Best Lives by providing the tools and support people need for greater independence, full inclusion, achieving a successful transition, and active participation in their homes and in their communities.

Spectrum Support is seeking a Coordinator in Frederick County for it's Youth Empowerment Program (YEP). YEP, in partnership with Frederick County Public Schools, provides special education high school students with a smooth transition into life after school.

Spectrum Support and FCPS create functional goals for each student to work on outside of school, with the assistance of the Youth Coordinator.

Youth Coordinators work with their students after school and on weekends, in the home, or in the community, building skills that can become tools for people with disabilities to be as independent as possible. A few focus areas include but are not limited to:
  • Self-care
  • Pre-employment skills
  • Meal prep/cooking meals
  • Developing routines within the home
  • Money Management
  • Advocating for their own interest
  • Time Management
  • Learning how to use public transportation
  • Making connections with community members
  • Building health boundaries
The Youth Coordinator will:
  • Complete new hire training at our Owings Mills corporate office.
  • Perform in-home intake assessments to evaluate each student's abilities and interests.
  • Review and comprehend each student's FCPS Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  • Create functional goals, based on information gathered at intakes, with the assistance of the YEP Manager.
  • Counsel parents on goal progress and implementation.
  • Work 1:1 with the students after school (2-5 hours per student each week) in the home or in the community.
  • Plan activities for 1:1 sessions with students that are directly relevant to their goals, with the assistance of the YEP Manager.
  • Communicate regularly with the YEP Manager regarding any issues or achievements.
  • Record professional daily notes in an electronic database.
  • Keep an organized binder for each student containing: Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), any psychiatric or vocational assessments, intake paperwork,
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required *(exception see below): Education, Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Human Services, or similar.
  • *If actively pursuing a bachelor's degree, you are eligible for this position with documentation (current college transcripts)
  • Valid Driver's license with no more than 2 points
  • An insured vehicle
Experience:
  • No experience required.
  • Relevant volunteer/professional experience is a plus.

Pay & Benefits:
  • $24.50 per hour
  • Flexibility: Ability to create your own schedule; as long as the YEP students' weekly hours are being met, it is up to you and your student to determine when to meet outside of the school day.
